Master David Garrison

5th Dan Master Kyuki Do

Head Instructor Hapki Do 

Master Garrison began his training in 1976. He studied Kyuki – do diligently under Grand Master Ok Hyung Kim while attending college. During his journey to 1st Dan “degree” Black Belt he also trained under Masters Yun Hyung Kim, and Wilfried Schultz defining his skills in Tae Kwon Do, Hapki Do, Judo, and Weapons.

 As a 6th Kup, Master Garrison began traveling the US in National Open Competitions, and became well known in “Free Fighting, Forms, and Weapons.” In April of 1981 he was promoted to 1st Dan “degree” Black Belt, and was in constant demand for his “LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS”, at events, and on TV. (Sports Vision, Discovery Channel, Consumer Electronics Show, World Games, Demo’s).

 As a Black Belt on the National Circuit, Master Garrison was recognized as the First AKF competitor who received 11 eleven US National Titles, and 7 seven AKF Grand Champion Awards. Master Garrison was awarded AKF Black Belt of the year as a Weapon Technician in 1981, 1985, and 1987, Free Fighting Champion in 1982, Demonstrator in 1984, 1986, and 1993, Referee in 1988, Contributor in 1991, and Black Belt Man of the Year in 1996.

 In October of 1983 Master Garrison opened the Tiger Martial Arts Academy in Barrington Illinois thanks to Grand Master Kim’s advice. Named after Master Garrison’s full contact fighting nickname “The Little Tiger”. Today the AKF Tiger Martial Arts Academy of Barrington has consistently produced champion level Black Belts through the years. Master Garrison challenges his students to express themselves demonstrating their instructor’s essence “Indomitable Spirit”, so they may attain their goals in life!  

 Master Garrison’s continuing education in weapons led him to train with Sifu Dan Inosanto who was one of the Legendary Bruce Lee’s students, focusing on Kali stick fighting in addition to Wing Chung, and Penjat Silat. Master Garrison’s expertise with a wide variety of weapons and Hapki Do expertise make his seminars very informative, and highly attended.  

              

 After performing Weapon demonstrations internationally in Mexico City, and Seoul Korea at the Young In University, and National Sports Center, and appearances on ESPN (USA vs Russia fights, and Diamond Nationals Master Garrison tested to the rank of 5th Dan Master in August of 1994. Performing again in 2000 in Korea at both the Yound In and Dong A Universities.
